Current Unit = Ancient Civilizations

Try Geo Caching!

Outside of our domain, beyond the horizon, lies a world that is begging to be explored, understood and involved. The importance of knowing your way around a map and our world is too long to share in this paragraph.  The first couple of weeks in school we will focus on knowing our main continents and oceans, applying latitude and longitude and being able to use cardinal directions when appropriate.  We will also be learning about timelines that involved BCE and CE as well as BC and AD.  Get involved by using a few extra items in the first block below.   Geocaching is a great way to apply this knowledge.  We have many caches right here in Shelby!

Geography

Our geography unit allows us to learn our way around the world using exact location and relative location. We also cover map varieties and timelines using BCE and CE (BC and AD).

Government

In our government unit we embark on the various forms of government around the world and the extent of those citizen's liberties.  The different perspectives on different topics can be obtained through a variety of historic and contemporary resources. We also look at the importance of community involvement to make our community a better place to live.

Ancient Civilizations

This unit takes us on an adventure to the ancient worlds of Mesopotamia, Egypt, China and India.

Economics

It has become easier and easier to develop businesses in this technology filled world today. We begin budgeting techniques here at school with our Whippet Bucks and the Whippet Way.  Taking these basic economic skills and growing them into goals, local and world-wide, is what would be ideal in our classrooms.
